Impact :

The Boston Tea Party intensified the conflict between the colonies and Britain, leading to the American Revolution. It united the colonies against British oppression and paved the way for independence.

How it worked:

The Boston Tea Party involved American colonists disguised as Native Americans boarding British ships in Boston Harbor. They dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor as a protest against the Tea Act.

Summary:

On December 16, 1773, American colonists, frustrated by British taxation without representation, took a bold stand.

At night, and disguised as Mohawk Indians, they boarded three British ships and threw 342 chests ($1.7 million in 2024) of tea into Boston Harbor.

This act of rebellion was in direct response to the Tea Act, which granted the British East India Company a monopoly on tea sales in the colonies. The Boston Tea Party galvanized colonial opposition to British rule, leading to the Coercive Acts and ultimately, the Revolutionary War.

The event remains a powerful symbol of resistance and the fight for American independence.
